<Poem>
前年伐月支，
城上沒全師。
蕃漢斷消息，
死生長別離。
無人收廢帳，
歸馬識殘旗。
欲祭疑君在，
天涯哭此時。
<End Poem>
<Translation>
When fighting the Yueh-chi Tatars last year
   No unbroken force round the city was left.
From foes or from Chinese no news could we hear.
   From living and dead we were equally reft.
The tents were abandoned, and no one to fold.
   The horses that fled stopped their sad standards by.
Your funeral rites while I feared to withhold,
   I hoped you yet lived. And far over the sky
The woe of these ages in wailings was rolled.
